About the webinar

How to improve resilience and address water scarcity through innovative solutions?

Water is a major issue for the future and, according to the WHO, over 2 billion people worldwide still do not have access to safe water. Overexploitation of groundwater and declining rainfall due to climate change are leading to a global scarcity of water resources

The webinar presented two innovative solutions in the field of water access that do not require energy consumption.

  • Maria Giovanna Di Bitonto, a doctoral student at Milan Polytechnic, talked about her research on fog collectors, which extract water from humid air masses.
  • Sébastien Mercier, Terre des hommes Foundation, PhD in the Laboratory of Molecular Physical Chemistry at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL), and Carola Bänziger, environmental scientist and Researcher at FHNW, the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland, presented the Gravit’eau system for washing hands with recycled water.

The presentations were followed by a question-and-answer session during which webinar participants were able to explore the proposed solutions in greater detail with the speakers.
