About Association de Formation et d’Appui au Développement (AFAD)

Founded in Mali in 1995, the Association de Formation et d’Appui au Développement (AFAD) is a civil society organisation working towards inclusive, sustainable, and resilient development. With more than thirty years of experience supporting communities and local stakeholders, it expanded its activities to Senegal in 2025.

AFAD works primarily in the fields of environmental protection, ecological transition, agroecology, food security, community development, climate resilience, the social and solidarity economy, and capacity-building and local governance.

Through a participatory, partnership-based approach, the organisation supports local authorities, institutions, and communities in implementing sustainable solutions that foster climate change adaptation, natural resource preservation, and territorial development.

Our partnership

AFAD has joined the third collective cycle of the Climate Action Accelerator to accelerate its low-carbon transition and move towards a more sustainable, resilient development model. This cycle provides a collaborative framework to:

  • Better understand and regularly measure the organisation’s environmental footprint (carbon and waste)
  • Identify the most relevant solutions and actions to implement in order to integrate sustainable practices
  • Build an environmental roadmap tailored to its context and challenges
  • Roll out and implement the first concrete solutions, including through support in securing funding

This represents an opportunity for AFAD to strengthen its impact while becoming part of a collective drive for innovation and resilience in the face of climate change.
