Leading by example: how the humanitarian sector is advancing climate action

The humanitarian sector is often at the forefront of the climate emergency and humanitarian organisations are increasingly raising their ambitious to respond both to the humanitarian consequences of climate change and reduce their own climate and environmental footprint.

This session, organised jointly between Climate Action Accelerator and the Disaster Emergency Committee, will aim to:

  • Share overall insights on the progresses made by the humanitarian community to transform its practices, demonstrating a strong willingness to contribute to global decarbonisation/ environmental
  • Share the experience of Climate Action Accelerator in supporting organisations implementing climate and environmental solutions that are both strengthening their humanitarian action and contributing to global action for a climate resilient, low carbon and sustainable future.
  • Share the experience and practical examples of DEC member charities and Charter Signatories who have developed decarbonisation/ environmental roadmaps or measures to reduce the footprint of their operations and programmes.
  • Engage with key London based humanitarian actors (INGO, think tanks, donors) on the transformation of their practices and policies towards low carbon models.
  • Beyond a commitment to “doing its part”, highlight how a greener and decarbonised humanitarian response is one that is more efficient, resilient, qualitative and localised.
